High School Counselors & College Advisors

Let’s work together to help your students make the best college choice for them.

We know you’re busy working to serve your students. Here are key resources to help guide students through their application and decision process at Winona State University.

Admissions Requirements

Students who don’t meet these requirements are still encouraged to apply.

Our Admissions team will individually review applications to determine a student’s potential success at WSU based on the strength of GPA and their academic progression.

Application Fee Waiver

There’s a $20 application fee. If an undergraduate student needs a fee waiver, they can email the WSU Admissions Office at admissions@winona.edu.

If a graduate student needs a waiver, they can email graduateadmissions@winona.edu.

Post-Secondary Enrollment Options (PSEO) Program

WSU welcomes high school juniors and seniors to our campus through the Minnesota Post-Secondary Enrollment Options (PSEO) program.

If you have questions, feel free to reach out at admissions@winona.edu.

You can also review the Minnesota Department of Education Post-Secondary Enrollment Options (PSEO) Reference Guide (PDF) for guidance, resources and step-by-step directions.

Transcripts & Test Scores

WSU doesn’t require ACT or SAT scores for the Fall 2022 term.

However, students are recommended to take these standardized tests if they can.

ACT/SAT scores will determine students’ English and math placements as well as their qualifications for some scholarships.

We’ll accept high school transcripts via the deliver method the high school chooses to send them. However, they do need to come directly from the high school.

WSU will automatically retrieve a student’s transcript from any Minnesota State colleges or universities they attended. However, we’ll need transcripts to be sent from each non-Minnesota State institution.

Scholarships

Students can access scholarships at every stage of their WSU college career.

For incoming students, we automatically assess their admission application for several merit-based scholarships.

If a student’s academic situation changes, they can send us an updated transcript, and we’ll reevaluate their scholarship award.

WSU Foundation Scholarships

Students can also apply for scholarships through the WSU Foundation. Each year, the WSU Foundation awards more than $1.4 million in scholarships for Winona State University students.

Students do need to be admitted to apply for these scholarships.

Deadline for 2023-2024 Academic Year

  • Current Students: Feb. 15, 2023 at 11:59pm
  • First Year & Transfer Students: April 1, 2023 at 11:59pm
Transfer Credits

We accept a variety of transfer credits, including AP and IB exams, credits from accredited colleges and universities, and military credits.

The WSU Admissions team always evaluates credits when students are accepted.

Students can use Transferology to get a sense of how their credits transfer to WSU.

Transfer Pathways

With a Transfer Pathway program, students can start their education at Rochester Community and Technical College (RCTCT) or another Minnesota State community college and then seamlessly transfer into the bachelor’s degree program at Winona State University.

Transfer Pathways are an easy way to save time and money, plus students have the flexibility to attend classes on campus or online.

Group Visits

Group visits are designed for high school groups and educational organizations who want to learn more about WSU. We offer virtual and in-person group visits throughout the year.

Standard Visit

A standard visit includes a 45-minute Admissions and Warrior Life Presentation and a 1-hour Campus Tour.

Optional Experiences

Your group might also opt to include additional experiences such as guest speakers.

Add on a 15-minute presentation from the Office of Equity and Inclusive Excellence or the TRIO Program—or both!

If you’d like to bring a group of students to Winona State University, complete the Group Visit Request Form and our group visits coordinator will be in touch.

If you have questions about a scheduled visit, you can email groupvisits@winona.edu
